CultureVisit: ~60 min
The New Mosque, in Eminönü Square, was begun in 1597 at the request of Safiye Sultan and was not finished until 1665, with the support of Turhan Hatice Sultan. Beside it is the Spice Bazaar (Mısır Çarşısı), L-shaped, made up of shops selling spices, dried fruit, sweets and Turkish delight. It is next to the Galata Bridge, on the south shore of the Golden Horn.
