An imperial mosque built between 1550 and 1557 by Mimar Sinan for Suleiman the Magnificent, on the third hill of Istanbul. It is part of a complex with schools, a hospital and baths. In the rear garden are the mausoleums of Suleiman and his wife Hürrem, and in one corner that of Sinan. Its terrace offers one of the best views of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus.
