Real Gabinete Português de Leitura
A library founded in 1837 by Portuguese emigrants and housed since 1887 in a Neo-Manueline building on Rua Luís de Camões, in the city centre. Its façade recreates the Portuguese Manueline style, and its reading room has wooden shelves on several floors beneath an iron-and-glass skylight. It holds the largest collection of Portuguese literature outside Portugal and is one of the most photographed libraries in the world.
