Wallenstein Palace

Wallenstein Palace, located in the Malá Strana district of Prague, is a vast Baroque complex that houses the Czech Senate and was built in the 17th century as the residence of Albrecht von Wallenstein, a general of the Holy Roman Empire. Visitors can walk through its Italian-style gardens, where the Sala Terrena with its three arcades, a grotto, an aviary and an artificial lake with an island can be found, along with replicas of Mannerist sculptures of gods and horses originally created by Adriaen de Vries. Inside, highlights include the main hall decorated with frescoes by Baccio del Bianco, the Knights' Hall, the Chapel of St Wenceslas and themed corridors such as the mythological and astronomical corridors, all connected by a system of passages that allows visitors to tour the palace without going outside. The former stable, which once housed forty horses each with an individual portrait, is now the Senate's council chamber, and the riding school serves as a venue of the National Gallery Prague.
