Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden
NatureVisit: ~120 min
Garden founded in 1808 by Prince Regent John of Portugal, at the foot of Corcovado and beside Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Its best-known image is the avenue of royal palms, planted in a straight line and very tall. It brings together thousands of plant species, with collections of orchids, Amazonian plants and a lake with water lilies. It is also a botanical research centre. It is a good shady walk to alternate with viewpoint visits.
