Christ the Redeemer
Art Deco statue of Christ with open arms, at the top of Corcovado (710 m), inside Tijuca National Park. It was unveiled in 1931 and stands 30 metres tall, not counting the pedestal. The project is by the engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, with sculpture by the Frenchman Paul Landowski; it is reinforced concrete covered in soapstone mosaic. From the viewpoint you take in Guanabara Bay, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and Pão de Açúcar. You go up on the Corcovado train.
