The central square of Lisbon’s Baixa, popularly known as the Rossio. It is presided over by the column with the statue of Pedro IV, surrounded by two 19th-century bronze fountains and an undulating black-and-white cobbled pavement. It is one of the oldest meeting points in the city, with the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II on its north side and Rossio station nearby.
