Archaeological Museum of Murcia

The Archaeological Museum of Murcia occupies a building constructed between 1941 and 1953 by Luis Moya Blanco and José Luis de León as a House of Culture, declared a historic-artistic monument in 1962. Its permanent exhibition, spread across 16 rooms, traces the archaeology of the Region of Murcia from the Palaeolithic to the late Roman period. The ground floor holds the rooms dedicated to the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, prehistoric art, Chalcolithic, Argaric Bronze Age, late Bronze Age and metal technology, with recreations such as a Neolithic hut, a Chalcolithic house and the Y/Z house from Rincón de Almendricos. The upper floor houses the rooms on the emergence of writing, Iberian culture and Rome. The Iberian room stands out, displaying one of the most important collections of Iberian art in Spain, with pieces such as the kalathos from grave 500 at Verdolay, the 'vase of the goats and the fish', the bronze votive offerings from the Sanctuary of La Luz, and the stone head of a goddess. The Roman room includes mining materials from Mazarrón and Cartagena, terracottas from Calvi and a mosaic with an inscription from Loma de las Herrerías. The museum also runs activities such as guided tours, temporary exhibitions, Piece of the Month and Museum Night.
