Tjörnin
NatureVisit: ~45 min
Shallow lake in the very centre of Reykjavik, surrounded by streets with colourful houses and official buildings; City Hall stands on its shore. It is a refuge for urban birds: swans, ducks and gulls, and in summer Arctic terns that nest in the area. In winter part of the lake freezes over and is used for skating. You can walk round it in under an hour.
