Wojtek the Bear Statue

CultureVisit: ~15 min

Wojtek was a Syrian brown bear adopted by Polish soldiers during the Second World War, who took him with them in the 22nd Artillery Supply Company. He became famous because he helped carry ammunition at the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944. He ended his days at Edinburgh Zoo. The statue in Gdansk recalls that story.
