A museum opened in 1969 that houses the art collection assembled by the Armenian magnate Calouste Gulbenkian. It brings together pieces from Egypt, Mesopotamia, Islamic art, the Far East and European painting and decorative arts, with works by Rembrandt, Rubens or Monet, as well as jewellery by René Lalique. It stands on Avenida de Berna, surrounded by a modern garden of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
