Museu del Patriarca
The Royal College Seminary of Corpus Christi, known as the Patriarca, was founded in 1583 by St John of Ribera, Archbishop of València, to train priests in the spirit of the Counter-Reformation. It was built between 1586 and 1615 in a very unified style and stands on calle de la Nau, opposite the historic building of the Universitat. It has been a national monument since 1962. In the vestibule hangs a stuffed caiman brought from the missions in the Americas. The cloister, with a double gallery of arches on columns brought from Genoa and with tiled dados, dates from the late 16th century. The chapel preserves frescoes of the two St Vincents, with views of 16th-century València, and a Last Supper by Ribalta over the high altar. The museum brings together works by El Greco, Joan de Joanes, Sariñena and Ribalta, mostly from the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as Flemish tapestries in the Chapel of the Monument.
