Shakespeare and Company
CultureVisit: ~45 min
English-language bookshop on rue de la Bûcherie, opposite Notre-Dame, across the Seine. It was opened in 1951 by the American George Whitman under the name Le Mistral and took its current name in 1964, in tribute to Sylvia Beach's bookshop of 1919. It is known for its floor-to-ceiling shelves, its reading nooks and for having hosted travelling writers from all over the world.
