Egyptian Museum (Tahrir)
Neoclassical building with a pink façade on Tahrir Square, designed by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon and opened in 1902 as the country's museum of antiquities. It holds tens of thousands of pharaonic pieces, from the Old Kingdom to the Greco-Roman period. For more than a century it was Cairo's great Egyptian museum, and it remains one of the oldest devoted to Egypt.
