Sanam Luang
CultureVisit: ~30 minFree
Large oval esplanade in front of the Grand Palace and close to Wat Pho, used for centuries for royal ceremonies: the Royal Ploughing Ceremony and the cremations of the royal family. Its tamarind trees and open lawn make it a place for strolling and flying kites. Its name means royal field. It is an open square with no major monuments; the interest lies in the setting with the palace behind.
