Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace
Royal compound in Bangkok founded in 1782 by Rama I when he moved the capital to the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya. It houses Wat Phra Kaew, temple of the Emerald Buddha, a small green jade image that is the palladium of the kingdom, and the Grand Palace, with throne halls and pavilions with tiered roofs. The galleries are painted with scenes from the Ramakien. Clothing covering shoulders and knees is required.
