Church of San Lorenzo
The church of San Lorenzo is on Calle Mayor, right in the old town. The present building dates from 1901 and replaced an earlier Baroque one. What makes it well known is the chapel of San Fermín, built between 1696 and 1717 and located on the right just as you enter. The saint's reliquary bust, made of polychrome wood adorned with silver, is kept there; it was installed on 6 July 1717. The image only leaves the chapel on 7 July, for the procession of San Fermín. He is known as the dark-skinned saint, and nobody knows whether his face was dark from the start or turned black from candle smoke. During the festival, the City Council goes to the chapel in full dress at several events. No ticket is needed to see the church, but it is best to respect service times.
