Enlightenment Stupa
The Enlightenment Stupa is a 33-metre-high Tibetan Buddhist monument, considered the largest stupa in the West and the tallest in Europe, located on a hillside of the Sierra de Mijas with sweeping views over the Costa del Sol. Opened on 5 October 2003, it was the last project of the Buddhist master Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche and is managed by the Asociación Cultural Karma Kagyu de Benalmádena. Unlike traditional stupas, which are sealed structures, this one contains a 100 m² meditation hall and a basement that usually hosts exhibitions on Tibetan Buddhism and Himalayan culture. The walls of the meditation hall are decorated with the story of the life of Buddha Shakyamuni. The site is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 18:30, and is closed on Mondays.
