Colomares Castle
Colomares Castle is a monument in the shape of a castle that tells the story of the life and voyages of Christopher Columbus through a blend of architectural styles, including Neo-Byzantine, Neo-Romanesque, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Mudéjar, built by hand from brick, stone and cement. Across its 1,500 square metres, visitors find symbolic depictions of the Catholic Monarchs, the three cultures of medieval Spain and elements of Columbus's voyage, such as the three caravels and a Chinese pagoda alluding to his original idea of reaching Asia. Inside the castle is a chapel of just 1.96 square metres, recognised as the smallest church in the world, as well as an empty mausoleum symbolising Columbus's final resting place.
