Museum of Navarre
The Museo de Navarra occupies the former Hospital de Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia, on Calle Santo Domingo in the old town. It preserves the Renaissance façade of 1556 and the chapel, which Juan de Ancheta built between 1547 and 1550 and which now serves as an auditorium. The museum was founded in 1956 and reorganised in 1986 with a chronological route by floor, from prehistory to the 20th century. Among its pieces are the Abauntz Map, an engraved Palaeolithic stone, the Togado de Pompelo, a bronze statue, Roman mosaics from villas such as El Ramalete, Andelos and Liédena, and the Leyre casket, a work of Islamic art. Also notable are Juan Oliver's Gothic mural paintings of the Passion of Christ and the portrait of the Marquis of San Adrián, painted by Goya.
