Tarragona Museum of Modern Art
The museum of the Tarragona Provincial Council was founded in 1976 to study, conserve and display modern and contemporary art. It occupies three 18th-century houses in the Part Alta, on Carrer de Santa Anna, restored by the architect Jaume Mutlló and reopened in 1991. The collection spans the 19th to the 21st century and brings together several disciplines. Of note are the bequest of the sculptor Julio Antonio, from Móra d'Ebre, which has a space of its own, and the Tarragona Tapestry by Joan Miró and Josep Royo. Among its pieces are the maquette for the Monument to the Heroes of 1811 by Julio Antonio, The Sphinx of Roscoff by J. Nogué Massó, and SSSSS (2020) by Marc Vives. In 2008 it unveiled a renewed permanent exhibition with an educational focus, and the centre has a library, a documentation centre and a photographic archive.
