Fortí de la Reina
The Fortí de la Reina is an 18th-century coastal fortification built on the Punta del Miracle, above the sea and next to the beach of the same name. It was built in 1745 under the direction of the engineer colonel Miguel Marín, during the period of the dynastic wars, to watch over the coast and protect the beach from a possible landing, together with the nearby Fortí de Sant Jordi. It has a trapezoidal plan and today survives almost only as its walls of stone and mortar, with a door on the landward side covered by a round brick arch. It played a part in the siege and defence of Tarragona in 1811, during the Peninsular War. In the 20th century a casino-hotel, a hotel and a spa-restaurant were planned for it; the restaurant that was built inside was sentenced to demolition in 2007. It is a Bé Cultural d'Interès Nacional and forms part of the Parc del Miracle route, surrounded by aromatic plants such as lavender and sage.
