Large rectangular pond in the centre of Retiro Park, dating from the 17th century, presided over by the Monument to Alfonso XII, unveiled in 1902, with its great semicircular colonnade and the equestrian statue by Mariano Benlliure. Rowing boats can be hired and it is one of the city's most typical strolls.
