Piazza del Popolo
CultureVisit: ~30 min
A large oval square next to the Porta del Popolo, the old northern entrance to Rome from the Via Flaminia. In the centre rises an Egyptian obelisk brought by Augustus, and on the east side a staircase leads up to the Pincio gardens. The twin churches of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto flank the start of the trident of streets.
