Ara Pacis
CultureVisit: ~45 min
The Ara Pacis Augustae is a marble altar consecrated in 9 BC to celebrate the peace achieved by Augustus after his campaigns in Hispania and Gaul. Its reliefs show a procession with the imperial family, mythical scenes and delicate plant motifs. It is housed in a glass museum by Richard Meier, opened in 2006, beside the Tiber and the Mausoleum of Augustus.
