Inokashira Park

The park is organised into four areas: the surroundings of Inokashira Pond, the Gotenyama grove, the western garden with sports facilities, and the Second Park. Beside the pond stand a small shrine dedicated to Benzaiten, a petting zoo and a small aquarium. At the south-western end lies the Ghibli Museum, dedicated to Studio Ghibli's animated productions. On weekends and holidays, vendors, musicians, artists and street performers gather, and during cherry blossom season visitors come for hanami. From the Nanai Bridge, which crosses the pond near its centre, the cherry branches on the bank blossom so densely they almost cover the water's surface. Boats can be rented on the pond, and there is a belief that rowing on it with a romantic partner foretells a breakup. In spring, the plum trees on the west side also bloom before the cherries; in summer, greenery covers Gotenyama; in autumn, the leaves turn colour and cover the paths; and in winter, the pond serves as a wintering ground for migratory birds. Annual events include the Kichijoji Music Festival Park Concert, with brass bands and choirs, Kichijoji Anime Wonderland, the Forest Stage, the Forest Cinema and the Forest Bazaar.
