Museo Correr
The Museo Correr occupies the side of St Mark's Square opposite the basilica, in the Napoleonic Wing and the Procuratie Nuove, the work of Vincenzo Scamozzi. It is entered by the monumental staircase of the Napoleonic Wing. On the first floor are the neoclassical rooms with the Antonio Canova collection. Another section, devoted to Venetian culture, covers the city's daily life, institutions, navy and festivals. The picture gallery, between the first and second floors, gathers Venetian painting up to the 16th century, with works by Lorenzo Veneziano, the Bellini family, Carpaccio, Cosmè Tura, Antonello da Messina and Lorenzo Lotto. There are also bronzes from the Venetian Renaissance, ivories and Italian ceramics. With advance booking and a specialist guide, the royal apartments can be visited, which were used by Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Sissi, and by the Bonaparte, Habsburg and Savoy dynasties.
