The 'Spyros Louis' Athens Olympic Stadium is the largest sports venue in Greece, with a capacity of 75,000 spectators. It forms part of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OAKA), in the suburb of Maroussi. It was built in 1982 and completely renovated for the 2004 Olympic Games, when the distinctive roof designed by Santiago Calatrava was added, made up of two giant arches spanning 304 metres and standing 72 metres high. The stadium has hosted events such as the 1997 World Athletics Championships, three European Cup/Champions League finals (1983, 1994, 2007) and the 2004 Olympic Games. After closing for safety reasons in 2023, it partially reopened in May 2024, with renovations expected to be completed in 2026. It can be reached by metro (line 1, Irini or Neratziotissa stations) or bus E14 from Syntagma. The venue has 34 entrance gates, 17 VIP boxes and 3 car parks.
