The Ribeira Palace stood on the bank of the River Tagus, next to the Ribeira das Naus shipyard and close to Lisbon's main trading houses. Inside it housed the Casa da Índia, the Royal Library and a chapel that changed from Manueline to Baroque style. Today its site is occupied by Praça do Comércio, popularly known as Terreiro do Paço, where two corner towers recall the palace's old tower.
