Madrid's opera house, opened in 1850 by Isabella II opposite the Royal Palace, on Plaza de Oriente. After a lengthy renovation it reopened in 1997 with one of the largest stage houses in Europe. Besides opera and dance performances, it offers guided tours of the auditorium, the foyers and the backstage areas.
