Belvedere Palace

The Belvedere Palace is a Baroque complex made up of two palaces, the Upper and the Lower, connected by symmetrical gardens with sculptures, fountains and terraces, designed in the French style by Dominique Girard. The Upper Belvedere houses the permanent collection of the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, spanning from the Middle Ages to the 21st century and including notable works by Gustav Klimt such as 'The Kiss', as well as pieces by Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and other Austrian artists. The Lower Belvedere hosts temporary exhibitions and historic rooms such as the Marble Gallery and the Gold Cabinet, while the former stables display a collection of medieval art. Visitors can explore the gardens across three levels, admire views of Vienna from the palace, and explore the Orangery, which originally served as a greenhouse for exotic plants.
