Cristo de la Expiración Bridge
A bridge over the Guadalquivir, known as the Cachorro Bridge after the nearby Patrocinio chapel, from which the Cristo de la Expiración sets out during Holy Week, and as the Chapina Bridge after the earth dam that used to cut off the river. It was opened on 17 October 1991 for Expo 92 and was designed by the engineer José Luis Manzanares Japón, inspired by the Pont Alexandre III in Paris. It is made of steel, with two shallow arches, measures 223 metres in length and 30 in width, with a span of 130 metres. It links Triana and La Cartuja with the exit towards the Aljarafe and Huelva. It was built over the dry riverbed before the Chapina dam was removed, which gave back more than four kilometres of river. The pedestrian walkways are shaded from the sun by white awnings hung from masts.
