A bronze equestrian statue of El Cid by the sculptor Juan Cristóbal, unveiled in 1955 in Plaza del Mío Cid, next to the San Pablo bridge and at the start of the Espolón promenade. Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar raises the sword Tizona towards Valencia and holds the reins of Babieca in his left hand. The horse, Babieca, strides forward with one leg raised. The statue faces the San Pablo bridge, which carries eight figures of characters from the Cantar de mio Cid by Joaquín Lucarini: Jimena with her daughters represented as two doves, San Sisebuto, Abengalbón, Jerónimo de Perigord, Diego, Martín Antolínez, Martín Muñoz and Álvar Fáñez. At the end of the bridge, a lamppost bears the image of the cockerel with which the Cantar opens.
