The Museum of Romantic Life occupies a historic house from 1830 at the foot of the Montmartre hill, where visitors walk through rooms and studios that evoke the atmosphere of the famous 19th-century artistic and literary gatherings. On the ground and first floors, personal mementoes of George Sand are on display, including family portraits, household objects, jewellery and dendritic watercolours, alongside plaster casts of Clésinger's arm and Chopin's hand. The second floor houses Romantic paintings by Ary Scheffer and his contemporaries, sculptures by artists such as Clésinger, Bartholdi and Marie d'Orléans, as well as material relating to the writer Ernest Renan. The museum also has a small garden and a greenhouse, where visitors can enjoy a tea room surrounded by greenery.
