Orangerie Park
A 26-hectare public park in the Orangerie district, in the Neustadt, opposite the Palais de l'Europe. Its Joséphine pavilion was built in 1804 to house some 140 orange trees confiscated during the Revolution; it burned down in 1968 and was rebuilt identically. The pavilion has been a historic monument since 1929 and the park has been listed since 1993. For the 1895 exhibition the park was extended and the artificial lake and waterfall were dug. Today you can hire a rowing boat on the lake, see the stork reintroduction centre, the mini farm and the play areas. The half-timbered Buerehiesel house, from around 1600, was moved here for the 1895 exhibition and now houses a restaurant.
