Ratonneau

Ratonneau is an island in the Frioul archipelago, in the Mediterranean, off the coast of Marseille. It is relatively long and narrow, about 2.5 km long and up to 500 m wide, and is connected to the neighbouring island of Pomègues by a jetty built in 1822. The island is home to the neoclassical Caroline Hospital, built in 1828 and partly destroyed during the Second World War, as well as a fort in the centre and a smaller one at its western tip. The island forms part of the Calanques National Park and has several beaches. Motor vehicles are prohibited. In summer, ferries connect the island to Marseille's Old Port. The island has a few restaurants and tourist shops, a fire station and a town hall.
