Floridablanca Garden

Floridablanca Garden is the oldest public garden in Murcia, created in the mid-19th century on the site of an 18th-century tree-lined avenue in the Carmen district, next to the Segura River. Inside, a central row of magnolias and enormous fig trees is preserved, along with rose gardens and flower beds that give it a romantic character. Visitors can stroll along its paths and find a notable collection of sculptures: the monument to the Count of Floridablanca, by Santiago Baglietto, installed in 1849 opposite the Church of the Carmen; tributes to the poets José Selgas and Pedro Jara Carrillo, both by José Planes; the bust of the sculptor Antonio Garrigós; and the monument to the Nazarene in colour, by Manuel Nicolás Almansa. Also notable is a side entrance gate formed by the stone portal of the former 18th-century municipal slaughterhouse, moved here after its demolition. The garden was the venue for the Agricultural, Industrial and Mining Exhibition in 1900 and was remodelled in 1998 to recover its romantic character.
