Hydraulic Museum of the Segura River Mills

The Hydraulic Museum of the Segura River Mills occupies the building of the former Molinos Nuevos, an 18th-century milling complex on the right bank of the Segura River, next to the Puente de los Peligros, in the Carmen district. The building was restored by the architect Juan Navarro Baldeweg and opened as a museum in 1989; the project was named among the ten best works of the 1980s in Spain. Inside, it holds the country's largest surviving installation of millstones and the permanent exhibition 'How a Mill Works', which traces the history and technological evolution of water mills from prehistory to the present day. The centre also houses the Sala Caballerizas, one of Murcia's most established exhibition spaces, hosting temporary exhibitions by sculptors, painters and photographers, as well as talks, workshops and concerts. The visit allows guests to see the restored tools and machinery of the old flour mill and to learn about the miller's trade and the importance of water in Murcia's history.
