German Historical Museum

The German Historical Museum (Deutsches Historisches Museum) is Germany's national museum of history, housed in the historic Zeughaus building (the oldest arsenal on Unter den Linden) and a modern annexe designed by I. M. Pei. Its permanent exhibition, 'German History in Images and Testimonies', presents more than 8,000 objects across 8,000 m², covering 2,000 years of German history in a European context. The museum also holds temporary exhibitions in the Pei-Bau, a specialist library with more than 225,000 volumes, and the Zeughauskino cinema. Its collection numbers more than 500,000 objects, and it maintains an extensive online database. The Zeughaus is currently closed for renovation, but the Pei-Bau remains open with temporary exhibitions.
