The Brücke Museum Berlin holds the world's largest collection of works by the Expressionist group Die Brücke, with around 400 paintings and thousands of drawings, watercolours and prints. Founded in 1967, the museum is housed in a building designed by Werner Düttmann, set in an idyllic natural setting in Berlin-Dahlem, next to the Grunewald forest. The collection includes major donations from the painters Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Erich Heckel, and the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation has been based at the museum since 1976. The museum presents a changing selection from its holdings and frequent temporary exhibitions of loaned works, as well as carrying out research on the movement's founding members and their early-20th-century milieu.
