National Museum of Archaeology
A museum founded in 1893 by José Leite de Vasconcelos, housed in the west wing of the Jerónimos Monastery, in Belém. It holds collections from prehistory, Roman times and ancient Egypt, with pieces found on Portuguese territory and ancient goldwork. It has been closed for a major renovation since 2022 and still has no reopening date; while the works last, part of its collection is shown on a large outdoor mural.
