A great papal basilica located outside the Aurelian Walls, over the traditional tomb of the Apostle Paul. The original church dates from the 4th century and the present one is a reconstruction after the fire of 1823. It stands out for its five aisles with rows of columns, the medallions with portraits of all the popes and the apse mosaic. It also has a 13th-century cloister.
