Zen temple of the Rinzai school, officially called Rokuon-ji, famous for its three-storey pavilion covered in gold leaf that is reflected in the Kyōko-chi pond. It was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in the late 14th century. A monk set it on fire in 1950 and it was rebuilt in 1955. It forms part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, a World Heritage Site. It is located in the north-west of the city.
