A pedestrian street of about 1.4 kilometres that links Taksim Square with Tünel, in the Beyoğlu district. It is lined with 19th-century buildings, arcades, bookshops, pastry shops and consulates, and the historic red tram runs along it. It is the best-known shopping and leisure axis of European Istanbul and is full of people well into the night.
