Los Lances Beach

NatureVisit: ~90 minFree

Los Lances is the beach that stretches west of Tarifa's built-up area, alongside the N-340. Part of it, the Playa de Los Lances Natural Site, covers 226 hectares between the beach and the wetland formed by the mouths of the Jara and Vega rivers; it was declared in 1989 and forms part of the Strait Natural Park. The beach within the site is about 2,890 metres long, with an average width of 200. An adapted wooden boardwalk, with benches and rest areas, starts at the car park next to the municipal stadium. During the migrations across the Strait, birds such as the little egret, the marsh harrier, the black-winged stilt and the Kentish plover can be seen. The northern stretch, of around 4,600 metres, is where the windsurfing and kitesurfing schools are concentrated. The southern stretch reaches the town centre and has showers and walkways.
