Iglesia de San Lorenzo el Real
A Baroque church built between 1684 and 1694 for the Jesuits, replacing a smaller church. It was financed by Francisca de San Vítores, and the master builders were Bernabé de Hazas and Francisco del Pontón. After the expulsion of the Jesuits, in the late 18th century, it became a parish church, and since 1945 it has been the seat of the Brotherhood of the Crowning with Thorns and Christ the King, active in Burgos's Holy Week. The façade has monumental proportions, with large Corinthian columns and two coats of arms, and the very wide tower extends the façade and ends in a small bell gable. Inside, the plan is a Greek cross with side chapels, a dome with a lantern and richly decorated vaults in the ambulatory. The gilded high altarpiece dates from 1725-1726 and is the work of José Valdán, and there are other Baroque altarpieces and a Gothic Virgin and Child. In the presbytery is the tomb of the foundress, Francisca de San Vítores.
