Colosseum
The Flavian Amphitheatre, known as the Colosseum, was begun by Vespasian around AD 70 and inaugurated by Titus in 80. It is the largest amphitheatre in the Roman world, with an elliptical plan and a travertine façade with superimposed arches in three orders. You can see the tiers of seating, the underground chambers of the hypogeum and the partially reconstructed arena. It is in the centre of Rome, next to the Roman Forum.
