The oldest museum in Colombia, founded in 1823. It occupies the former Panopticon, a radial-plan prison designed by the architect Thomas Reed and built between 1874 and 1905, which operated as a jail until 1946 and opened as a museum in 1948. It brings together collections of archaeology, ethnography, history and Colombian art, from pre-Hispanic times to the present.
