Mount Ikoma

Mount Ikoma is the highest peak of the Ikoma Mountains, at 642 metres, on the border between Osaka and Nara prefectures. It forms part of the Kongō-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park and is one of the most popular picnic spots in Kansai. At the summit are numerous broadcasting towers and the Ikoma Sanjo amusement park. On the eastern slope stands Ikoma Jinja Shrine, which has existed since the 5th century, and near the summit lies Hozan-ji Temple, traditionally celebrated as a national landscape and featured in print series such as the 'Sixty-eight National Views'. The descent from the mountain temple to the village is a notable spot for cherry blossoms, as is the mountain itself along the scenic Ikoma Skyline road. It is reached via Ikoma Sanjo Station on the Ikoma cable line.
