Imperial Castle of Nuremberg (Kaiserburg)
The Kaiserburg crowns the sandstone hill above Nuremberg's old town and was one of the main residences of the Holy Roman emperors. The complex comprises the Palas, the ceremonial building with the double chapel, one above the other, and the Kaiserburg Museum, which occupies part of its rooms. Outside the main building you can visit the Deep Well (Tiefer Brunnen), dug into the rock and shown with a guide, and the Sinwell Tower, from the top of which you can see the roofs of the old town. It is managed by the Bavarian Palace Department. To the south of the grounds is a garden, the Burggarten, with free entry during the opening season, and in it you will find the garden dedicated to Maria Sibylla Merian. The ticket office is in the outer courtyard and tickets are only sold there, by cash or card.
